A U.S. Military Trick to Fall Asleep in Two Minutes… Do You Think It’s Possible?

A while back I learned there is an actual group called the National Sleep Foundation. My first thought was, “I wonder if they let their workers take naps.”

That might sound like a joke, but keep reading. This group studies the mysterious phenomenon known as sleep. And provides plenty of useful information about sleep to folks like you and me.

Here’s an example. Did you know that nearly one-half of Americans say poor or insufficient sleep affected their daily activities at least once in the past seven days?

Or that 20 percent of Americans report they did not wake up feeling refreshed on any of the past seven mornings?

In Bed, But Wide Awake

Now, it would be one thing if we weren’t getting to bed early enough or we had to get up earlier than we wanted to.

But the Sleep Foundation says Americans report being in bed for an average of over 7½ hours per night.

That’s still not as much as the nine hours per night people were reporting 100 years ago. But it would seem to be enough sleep to allow people to feel rested and ready to take on a new day.

However, it isn’t working out that way. Thirty-five percent of Americans describe their sleep quality as “poor” or only “fair.”

The Challenge: Falling and Staying Asleep

So, if the amount of time we’re in bed sleeping is enough, what’s the problem?

Well, the problems are that we are taking too long to fall asleep and we are waking up too often during the night.

But we’re going to have to dig a little deeper under the covers to figure out why these problems are occurring.

If we can do that, we should be able to discover an answer to a problem that is affecting far too many people. Maybe you are one of them.

Lack of Sleep Is Dangerous

First of all, are the lack of sleep and the poor quality of sleep real issues? Or are they merely inconveniences?

Here’s what Kristen Knutson, a National Sleep Foundation Poll Fellow says.

“Getting enough sleep improves your health, strengthens your immune system, improves your mood and boosts productivity.

“Chronic poor sleep is linked to poor health, mood disorders and low productivity. Improving sleep in various demographics could make a positive impact on public health.”

Sleep Aids Spending Up

Forbes.com recently reported that insufficient sleep has also been linked to depression, ADHD and obesity. Plus Type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, cancer and Alzheimer’s disease.

And this lack of sleep is actually killing people. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration estimates that drowsy driving causes 1,550 deaths in America each year. And 40,000 injuries.

So, yes, this is a very serious issue. People are certainly aware they’re not getting enough quality sleep. It’s estimated that $52 billion will be used on sleep-related aids annually by 2020.

Some companies are even trying to help workers function better by establishing “nap rooms.” HubSpot, a marketing software group is among them… just in case you want to send them your resumé.

Military’s Magic Formula

Especially designed with pilots in mind, the U.S. military developed a “magic sleep formula.” It can help service members fall asleep in two minutes.

It’s used for pilots to get the sleep they needed so they wouldn’t nod off while flying. And the military said it had a 96 percent success rate after six weeks of practice.

Here’s the method:

  1. Relax your face – including your tongue, jaw and the muscles around your eyes.
  2. Drop your shoulders as low as they can go. Then relax your upper and lower arm on one side, and then the other.
  3. Breathe out, and relax your chest.
  4. Finally relax your legs from the thighs to the calves.
  5. When your mind is clear, try to picture one of these images. Lying in a canoe in a clam lake, nothing but blue sky above you, or snuggled in a black velvet hammock in a pitch-black room. Then say, “Don’t think, don’t think, don’t think” for 10 seconds.

There Must Be a Better Way

Now, I’m all for supporting the U.S. military. And I’m down with whatever they can do to keep our fighting men and women feeling refreshed and strong.

But there has to be a better way to get to sleep faster. And stay asleep longer. And enjoy better quality sleep.

That’s why I’m excited to tell you about a breakthrough formula our buddy Jeff over at Patriot Health Alliance discovered. It’s called American DreamZzz.

This doctor-developed special formula includes non-habit-forming ingredients that help you fall asleep quicker. While also promoting deep, restful sleep. All in as little as one week.

Just hear how it helped Sharon E. and her husband who both have trouble sleeping:

“I wanted to let you know how thankful I am for American DreamZzz. [Nothing my husband tried] worked for very long. This product though is working for BOTH of us. Now we both are sleeping extremely well. Thanks!”
