Stuff You’ll Have to Live Without After the Stuff Hits the Fan
We talk a lot about all the items we need to stockpile in preparation for a disaster. Food and water top the list, but there are many other essential items we need if we’re going to survive a major crisis.
There seems to be less discussion about what we’re going to have to live without if the crisis proves to be a long-term event. The longer an emergency situation goes on, the fewer things we take for granted will work properly. There will be a gradual meltdown of society.
The challenges will be huge for everyone, but the people who are best prepared will have the best chance for survival. Once it happens, we’ll either look back and be proud of what we did to save ourselves and our families, or we’ll deeply regret not having heeded all the advice we were given.
Let’s take a look at three things we will lose in a long-term crisis, as well as how we can prepare for such an event.
- No Power. A major emergency will undoubtedly include the electrical grid going down for an extended period of time.
We live in a society that has become completely dependent upon electricity. It will be even worse for us than being plunged back into the 1800s because back then they knew how to live without electrical power. We don’t.
Solution: a solar-powered generator to keep the lights on and other electronic devices working. Re-charged by the sun, it will enable you to generate heat or cool air, as well as to run other important electronic appliances.
- No Running Water. Even if you’re lucky enough to be able to hunker down during a significant crisis, rather than having to bug out, you probably won’t have running water for long.
Once you’ve run out of whatever water you’ve stored for just such an occasion, it’s likely that any water you find will be contaminated. You’ll be faced with the horrible choice of dehydration or sickness from contaminated water.
Solution: a water purification system. A device that purifies more than 99 percent of contaminants will keep you drinking fresh, clean water while others around you won’t be so fortunate. Acquire a tabletop device for home and an on-the-go purification bottle for when you’re out and about.
- No Food Supply Chain. A serious disaster is certain to break down the food supply chain, probably sooner rather than later. Grocery store shelves will empty quickly.
Of course, food isn’t the only item that will fail to come to market. Pretty much every other item you need – from flashlights to batteries and duct tape to rope – will not be available. If you haven’t stockpiled it, you probably won’t have access to it.
Solutions: a supply of emergency food with a long shelf life and survival seeds. Stock up on nutritious, vitamin-rich foods in order to feed yourself and your family. And with heirloom seeds, you’ll be able to grow your own healthy food, then use the seeds from the new plants for the next season’s crop.
Fortunately, there’s a one-stop shopping place for you to find the items you need to combat the lack of power, running water and food. Click here to see what I mean, then click on “Products.”

P.S. Many of you already have stockpiled food, water, seeds, water purifiers and other items, and maybe you have a fully-charged generator standing by. Good for you. But what if the crisis goes on and on? Are you prepared for that? You can be.
