Conservative Actor Gary Sinise Receives Army’s Highest Civilian Award
Trying to find a conservative in Hollywood is like looking for a needle in a haystack.
As we know from film and television award show speeches, a vast majority of actors and actresses trip over themselves trying to out-liberal each other.
I know there are a few conservatives in Hollywood – perhaps most notably Clint Eastwood – but most of them keep pretty quiet about it. I’m sure some of them don’t want to be ostracized by other actors or passed up for roles they’re seeking by directors, due to their political opinions.
If there were a book titled “Conservatives in Hollywood,” it would probably be the size of a small pamphlet. And despite the end of the Obama Administration and the beginning of the Trump Administration, the political atmosphere near Sunset and Vine is not about to change anytime soon.
Hollywood Is Like Nazi Germany
Hollywood can be a very hostile place for those who express conservative opinions and values. Just ask Tim Allen, who was the star of his own hit television series on ABC titled Home Improvement, and who also starred in the movie The Santa Clause.
Allen compares Hollywood to living in Nazi Germany.
“You gotta be real careful around (Hollywood),” said Allen. “You get beat up if you don’t believe what everybody else believes. This is like ‘30s Germany.”
And that’s why it was so refreshing to see that actor Gary Sinise was selected last week for the Association of the United States Army’s highest award for public service, the George Catlett Marshall Medal.
In a statement to Military Times, Sinise said, “It has been a great blessing to know there is something I can do to support the men and women in uniform who defend our nation.”
A Well-Deserved Honor for Gary Sinise
We at 4Patriots believe the George Catlett Marshall Medal is a very fitting honor considering how devoted Sinise has been to the U.S. military, including our often overlooked veterans. Past recipients of this prestigious award include Harry S. Truman, Bob Hope and George H.W. Bush.
Sinise is on the advisory council of Hope for the Warriors, a national nonprofit company dedicated to provide a full cycle of non-medical care to combat-wounded service members, their families and families of the fallen from each military branch. In addition, Sinise and his Lt. Dan Band perform on USO tours at military bases around the world.
As political commentator and former U.S. House of Representatives member Allen West wrote last week on his website, “Throughout my journeys, I’ve noticed that in almost every single (USO) facility that I have visited, an autographed photo of Gary Sinise is proudly displayed. A sincere message typically accompanies the photo. Sinise has been supporting military members and veterans for decades now.”
Lieutenant Dan Stands Tall in Hollywood
Sinise has put together an incredible acting career through the years, earning both Emmy and Golden Globe awards. He played Lieutenant Dan in Forrest Gump, Stu Redman in Stephen King’s The Stand, Harry S. Truman in Truman and Ken Mattingly in Apollo 13, as well as many other roles. He also directed and acted in Of Mice and Men.
Like Tim Allen and Clint Eastwood, Sinise is one of the few actors in Hollywood who aren’t afraid to express his conservative beliefs. In 2004, Sinise founded Friends of Abe, Inc., a support and networking group for politically conservative members of the Hollywood elite. He also narrates the virtual online tour for the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library.
I have no problem watching movies and TV shows featuring liberal Hollywood actors and actresses. But when I see them step up to the podium during award shows, I hit the mute button.
It’s nice to know I don’t have to do that when Gary Sinise speaks into the microphone.
I am very proud of
Gary Sinise.. He sets a great unselfish example for the other non-patriots in Hollywood. We Veterans give him praise, due him whole heartedly..Thanks Gary…
I wish our country has more real selfless, respectable and patriotic men like Gary with a heart like Jesus.
As a retired veteran I personally am thankful for the award bestowed on a fine gentleman ,Mr Gary Sinise. THANKYOU,THANKYOU…HRM…
Very proud of Gary Sinise and so thankful for his stance in Hollywood for the things he believes in! I admire him as an actor and for who he shows himself to be in his everyday/personal life! Congratulations to him on this well deserved award!
Couldn’t agree more, Twila. Thanks for your comment.
Mr. Sinise is very much appreciated for his help of not only Veterans but also First Responders, Police and their families (among others). The Sinise Foundation is one organization I feel confident in supporting. Great to see him rightfully recognized for all he does!
By way of an odd side note, former President Harry S Truman has a only a middle letter for his legal middle name, It is not an abbreviation for anything, so we should not place a period after the letter S in his name. His parents could not agree on a middle name, one wanted “Shippe” and the other parent wanted “Solomon”. They picked just the lone letter. as an open-ended nod to both.
Thank you for that information! I live about a mile from his home and Library. I have never heard of this.
So glad Gary Sinise got recognition from the people he most admires. He’s been doing great things for our fighting men at a time when most of his peers do nothing for them.
As a Canadian with several American relatives, I grew up idolizing your Country and am saddened by the disruptive elements currently taking place in your Country and benefiting from liberal press coverage. I extend a bog thank you to Gary for his open and continued respect he shows to the Flag, the Veterans and his Country. Well done.
