4Patriots Donates to For The Troops
In 2005, Paula Cornell noticed that her husband had failed to brush his teeth one morning. So, she reminded him about it.
His response was, “It’s no big deal. I didn’t brush my teeth for a year in Vietnam.”
He then told her about a number of other items he had lived without during his tour of duty.
Bothered that Americans who were laying their lives on the line around the world were forced to live without many of the basic commodities we take for granted back in the States, Cornell and Janie Josephson launched an all-volunteer, nonprofit organization called For The Troops (www.ForTheTroops.org).
Now, many volunteers put together “We Care” packages for active U.S. military service men and women at the Simi Valley, California storefront office, where donations from the community and beyond are dropped off or mailed.
We at 4Patriots were so impressed by this initiative that we decided to donate a three-month supply of survival food to For the Troops, as well as additional Food4Patriots items.
As you probably know, we regularly make product and monetary donations to a variety of organizations. But we are especially proud to benefit organizations that support our military members and their families.
The courageous men and women who serve our country so faithfully deserve only the best. It’s wonderful that people such as Paula Cornell, Janie Josephson and all their volunteers put so much time and energy into helping the men and women who keep us safe every day.
Our donation to For The Troops included a three-month survival food kit, an oatmeal case lot, a fruit kit, a deluxe dessert kit and a coffee kit, as well as 6,479 decks of playing cards.
Among the other organizations that benefit from our donations are:
- Fisher House Foundation, which operates homes across the country where families of active duty soldiers and veterans alike can stay at no cost while their loved one is receiving medical treatment.
- Operation Homefront, which aids military families during difficult financial times by providing food, auto and home repair, vision care, travel and transportation, moving assistance, essential home items, and financial help.
- A Soldier’s Child Foundation, which provides meaningful birthday gifts to the children of fallen U.S. military members and offers mentorship programs and college scholarships.
- RIP Medical Debt, which aims to abolish medical debt. The 4Patriots donation is earmarked for active U.S. military personnel and veterans.
Once a year I participate in a 12 hour Marathon Jam to benefit Fisher House. I have been doing this for 4 years andnow have a place with the IRON PICKERS OF CHAPEL HILL N.C. We also perform at the VA Hospitals to give a little music to the Veterans who have given so much for us to be able to do this. Our commitment is to complete 22 hours a month at the VA’s to remember the 22 suicides the Veterans commit Daily.
That is awesome, Steven! And very sobering. Thanks for sharing that.
