Taking away your ammo…one bullet at a time

The U.S. government has made no secret about the fact it wants to grab guns out of the hands of law-abiding citizens. Any logically thinking individual realizes that if the government were ever successful in this, only criminals would have guns. But logic is a rare commodity among this administration and the liberal sheep that follow it blindly.

Fortunately, a vast majority of the government’s efforts have fallen short because most people believe that gun ownership is their constitutional right. And even the liberal politicians know if they fight too hard for this, they will be voted out of office. So, one of the ways Obama and other liberals try to get around taking an unpopular position is by limiting the access Americans have to ammunition. They do this by creating artificial shortages and by increasing taxes.

The particular bullet they’ve been trying to get off the market lately is the .223 M855 “green tip” ammunition because it can pierce bulletproof vests worn by law enforcement officers. As of this writing, 239 members of the U.S. House of Representatives have signed a letter opposing the ban being proposed by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

A National Rifle Association official was quoted as saying, “The claim that this is done out of concern for law enforcement safety is a lie. The Director of the Fraternal Order of Police has said this is not an issue of concern. And according to the FBI, not one single laws enforcement officer has been killed with M855 ammunition fired from a handgun.”

Gun rights officials are concerned that if this ban were to go forward, the next ammunition that would be banned would be ammo used in hunting rifles, because it can penetrate bulletproof vests as well.

How do you feel about the proposal to ban the sale of M855 ammunition? Do you think this is a one-time deal, or is it another step toward banning guns in America?
