10 ways to spot and avoid genetically engineered foods
A growing number of people are refusing to eat genetically modified food these days. Others don’t care one way or the other and don’t believe that their lives are affected by the issue. The vast majority of people are concerned about the increasing percentage of the nation’s foods that have been genetically modified, but have no idea how many of the foods they eat fall into that category. At the very least, they deserve to know which foods are genetically engineered and which aren’t, but the U.S. is one of the world’s many countries that does not yet require GMO labeling.
Also known as biotech foods, GMO foods are those that are derived from genetically modified organisms. The aim of modifications – made through the insertion or deletion of genes – is usually faster growth, resistance to pathogens or production of extra nutrients. The commercial sale of GMO foods began in 1994. Between 1996 and 2011, the total surface area of land cultivated with GMOs increased to 395 million acres from 4.2 million acres. It’s estimated that today in the U.S., 95 percent of the planted areas of sugar beet, 93 percent of soybeans and 86 percent of corn are genetically modified varieties.

A poll is cited indicating that 90 percent of people would, if given a choice, actively seek to avoid genetically modified organisms in their food. - Look at the stickers on fruit.
- Buy local and talk to your farmers.
- Avoid the top four GMO crops of soy, corn, canola and cottonseed.
- Encourage your favorite food providers to label their food “GMO free.”
- Buy organically grown food.
- Use conventional or organic sugar.
- Grow your own food.
- Buy whole foods.
- Purchase beef that’s 100 percent grass fed.
- Tell your lawmakers that you want GMO-free labeling to become mandatory.

i care. Glyphosate is so destructive. It is in our food, our organic food, our water, our soil, our oceans, it killing our reefs…I am associated with a chemist to restore citrus groves dying from citrus greening in Florida – only the disease is not
from a “bug” which has been researched with over $90Million taxpayer dollars without an answer. It is from the overuse and abuse of chemicals, mainly glyphosate, used in the management programs. Trees are restored to full harvest in 2-3 years. They don’t have to push them down, they don’t have to take out a loan to purchase new tress, they don’t have to sell out. To support what I have said, a Florida certified citrus grower’s grove got citrus greening. Examination revealed he followed the certified directions which allows manure…only this manure was from GMO fed cows.

We need to get this message out so farmers of all crops can restore their soil and neutralize the chemicals and glyphosate and produce chemical free nutrient-dense food. Remember glyphosate is in the air and rain. Raising food without chemicals means being vigilant year round to neutralize the chemicals. Chemical Free, glyphosate free food is so important for the developing brain of our children from fetal development in the womb through preschool.
Glyphosate binds the 8 essential amino acids in the soil which humans need for brain development. These are not produced in the body. Lack can lead to imbalance and or delay in neurological development. Growing your own food is important but knowledge is important to treat water and soil for glyphosate and add microorganisms destroyed by glyphosate,,,,then restore gut microorganisms….you need to start with restoring the soil. Not all labeled organic food is grown organically…not all labeled organic food is transported without chemicals…ask questions. Stay Healthy. Our children depend on us to stand up for them. FDA do not require that GMO’s are labeled. People have a right to know what they are eating. All genetically produced foods should be labeled. Who the heck want jelly fish genes in their potatoes? Or Round Up? Contact your elected officials.
I am Glutm free s that takes caare of the wheat. I try to purchase only foods free of GMO. It is certainly limited and one has to be really patient during the process.. All we can do is be selective and tell friennds and enemies about GMO. Store managers just look at you when you mention GMO.
I think it’s a travesty to poison our food source, breathe in chem trails, and eat nutrient depleted food. We live in such a hostile environment. But I thank God is still in the business of answered prayers!
WE, shop at many different places leaving the GMO’s and not identified products on the shelves. This is the best message for any store manager.

I don’t understand why they don’t have to label their GMO food. Some companies state on their products that they are GMO free which is helpful but we need more to do that. I have tried to let my representatives know how I feel about it but they just talk about food safe bills which doesn’t really get to the issue.

Having been born in East Africa, in 1944, and raised under the umbrella of British rule, the East African Indians are very much against GM products and “Fresh, locally grown and bred” was a byword in our food chain. Now in 2015, and living in Britain for some 41 years, it has become progressively difficult to obtain truly ‘Organic’ produce. The European Government are slowly bending towards GM form of farming to increase yield on smaller farmlands. I am afraid we will be pulled ‘kicking and screaming’ into the GM diet. Anyone got any ideas how to convince politicians to reject GM products? Even the Health food industry in London is stretching the truth.

Most of the posts here are from those who either have not done any research or choose to ignore the facts they disagree with. One point of note: ALL corn is GMO. Check out the history of corn in North America. The original stock is barely recognizable as what we eat today. And this is from “breeding” long before the “evil Monsanto” and their kin.

That is a hybrid, the seed isn’t genetically the same as either parent plant , by cutting the tassel off the “female” corn it is pollinated by the male corn plant , which is both male and female. Now you have an GMO. Like a mule is a hybrid between a burrow and a mare. Both are GMO both been going on for a long time. If it hits the fan I will be growing GMO crops that have new geneic restantance to insects, drought and disease. While your family starves my family and my livestock will have food to eat. Plant breeding for specific traits has been around for centuries. Thomas Jefferson was a leader in cultivating plants with specific characteristics. I think people are freaking out when it is unnecessary. Chicken Little is alive and well. Plant breeders are not evil. They are working to provide food for the world.

Cultivating better and crosscultivating plants is not GMO. GM is just what it says, changing the original design of plant to a modified form by change in genetics, the basic design. It is not natural, thus detrimental to anyone’s health.
I know it is not exactly relevant but the truth is there are tons of grains rotting in Africa because the governments refuse to distribute GMO grains to their people.

Yeah, remember those early newspaper articles, around 1994. Said they were using trout and human genes plus a whole litany more. I immediately thought of biblical references to consuming your own offspring of a span long (10.5 inches). Lam. 2-20 and Deut. 28-53. I remember thinking how gross! But if human genes are being used, it is not a stretch to see that’s what in essence we are doing. Ten and one-half inches is the size of an unborn fetus. And since 54 million have been aborted since Roe v. Wade, there’s is plenty of genetic fodder to choose from. I guess it’s the devil’s turn at the helm in these end times. After all, he is the lord of the earth….for a short little while more anyway

seen a RoundUp test on 3 farms for soy beans. Farms were more than 100 miles apart, From each farm the wind drift of RoudUp spray was maxed at 13 miles, in 3 years there were RoudUp ready weeds in these drift areas.
As for organic grown foods, all the natural stuff use for organic food growing is great but my problem with this label is
1. no one knows what was done to the dirt before anyone lived there.
2. no one knows what was sprayed over the dirt before anyone lived there
3. no one knows what was in wind drift or water flooding the land.
4. the organic certification is only applied if all of “their” test numbers come in as “they” want them to and YOU pay the the money “they” want you to pay. So would not matter if I did a great organic growing garden with all the test numbers better than is wanted if I did not ” PAY ” the money (sounds like monsato) I would not be allowed to be called “organic ” grower of food.
Hi Gerald – You are somewhat right. We are a small grower of Organic vegetables. Mainly Asian Black Beans. I bring in my seed from areas in S. Korea, China and Japan. My other seeds come in from some farmer friends in Ecuador. The places we plant has no abuting GMO farm land – sometimes major highways and tollroads are a blessing. If you’ll look at the history of GMO’s which was 1994 when the FDA approved the 1st GMO – a tomato. Once you know that you can get a history of the crops grown on that land. – USDA The testing to date shows that if the land is no longer having GMO’s and Pestacides used on it for a period of 3 to 5 years depending on what was grown and what will be grown in that piece of land you can get organic certification.

Depending on the Federally approved organization YOU choose to get your certification from the fees range from somewhat reasonable to horrendous. Ask me I know after looking at all the certifiers in a surrounding 500 mile area to our growing areas. Some charge a flat fee (they send out inspectors to make sure you are adhereing to the rules in order to make sure the crop is being grown right. Ihave a hard time with this but there are growers out there that would represent their crops as organic but will use inorganic or chemicals to grow and say it is organic. I hired out a few old GMO farmers to grow some of my crops and found them spraying chemicals so they didn’t have to cultivate when the weeds showed up. BUT if you can prove the methods you use to grow and you sell less than $10,000 of each specific crop you are allowed by law to state that your crop is organically grown. You cannot use the Certified Organically Grown emblem on these products. My particular plants are “self fertilizing” so I can put a GMO plant of the kind I am growing right next to mine and they will never cross. Not all of them mind you. As long as you do not plant your gardens close to someone using chemicals and have tree barriers helping to keep the winddrift out of your growing area you can grow organic crops. It is not easy mind you and this is why along with using all the “old” farming methods of “cultivate, cultivate, cultivate…” as my 86 yr old farming partner always says that the cost of organic produce is more expensive. I’m 70 by the way.
Eating GMO food is like eating a hot serving of hormones. Thank you, no. It was hard enough being a vegetarian for health reasons without running into all the GMO crap. I emailed the companies whose veg food I wanted to try, and of course each one plans to be be GMO free by 2017. It’s progress, but it doesn’t help now.

genetically engineered food is valueless. also you tout hydro phonically grown foods, which do in fact grow faster, and larger. however have you checked out the nutritional value? the nutrients are not taken from water, to supply healthy food. hydro foods are inferior to earth grown produce. in square foot gardening, you can produce as much produce in as little space as in hydro phonics. composting leaves, and non animal garbage supplies healthful produce. to your health.

I had wondered why lil girls started to become reproductive at such a young age of 6-9 yrs. old, until my son had a FFA Hog project, in which the animal was fed these growth inducing hormones where as she matured 4 x faster than a grass/field fed hog, made me realize what is happening with our new youth generation of ADD/ADHD, it is all due to the growth hormone that we are getting second hand from both meat and vegetables, we have gone strictly we eat what we raise and produce, I even raise the feed for my chickens now.
I had the same experience with 4-H projects. Beef & dairy. This was in the late ’80’s. Hormone injections.
We live in Arizona and even though the heat in the summer can be a problem, we grow our own vegetables and our own meat. We also have goats for milk. I can tell you there are problems with the GMO’s and we’re proof. The last two years after we had our VA blood work and then at our appointment, the Dr. said there was something going on with my liver. We completely changed how we eat and still eat read meat, but cut out the Gmo’s, buy locally, organic and grow our own. I had a call from the nurse four days ago (we had done blood work for our yearly) and the first thing she said “I don’t know what you are doing, but it’s working, your liver numbers are great, something has changed”. The only thing I can say to those up above who have commented that there is nothing wrong with GMO’s, get your head out of the sand, do the research (not just government sites) and open your eyes. The next time you have a family member or friend with cancer, figure it out, it came from somewhere and there are too many people with cancer, and there’s a reason.

Australian scientists have already ran tests on rats and proved that 1st, 2nd and 3rd generations are mostly sterile even when 2nd and 3rd generation eat no GMO foods.

I am not the least bit concerned with GMOs for the very reason that nature has been randomly modifying the genes of animal and plant food and every living thing for billions of years. It’s called evolution. Read about it. You would be amazed! All genes in all specieswere at some point genetic modifications of its progenitors and those genes have been modified over and over again.
Those modifications that are harmful are soon tested by nature and discarded. Industrial GMO modifications, if anything, are are much safer than nature’s random modifications because they are tested and selected before they are released. What company would propagate a plant food that is unhealthy to its customers? Nature has no such interest or compunction. Nature just makes its random GMOs without any regard for human safety or wellbeing and selects the successful modification for the well being of the plant or animal only. That’s why we have dangerous animals and poisonous plants.

GMO use has been able to greatly reduce the use of very toxic weed and insect killers and improve the environment while reducing the cost of food production for everyone.
A few holes in your argument I could not let go sailing by. First of all, chemical companies are genetically splicing genes from non related species to allow for increased application of glyphosate herbicide, not decreased, because the weeds are becoming resistant. These inter species spliced genes would never happen in nature. As for the “insect killers”, they just put it into the plant for us to eat. Yeah, they don’t have to spray as much insecticide, but at the expense of our food supply. If these GMOs are so safe then why has the biotech industry vehemently opposed any attempt to require labeling of our food? You, sir, appear to be a shill for the industry. Go back to your facebook and twitter and “keeping up with the Kardashians” Maybe there’s an app for that.
John Green, I agree with you, and I would say he has a financial stake in Monsanto. I used to work at the Hampton Inn about three years ago and served the breakfast. Just before I closed the doors, a man came in to eat, we started talking. He started telling me his wife is some kind of a supervisor at Monsanto (he must have seen the horror on my face) and how great they treat her and she makes a lot of money. When he saw the look on my face he said “Oh, don’t even go there, they’ve been good to us”. Amazing isn’t it, how blind they are when money is involved but not people’s lives.

Have you read about the company called Monsanto? They are actually suing small farmers for saving seed. There gmo food has been shown to lower the immune systems of humans. The pesticides they continue to use is killing all the milkweed. Which in turn is devistating the butterfly populations. The bee populations are also affected. No pollenating insects would impact the human race negatively.
God is in control, all the time, and knows the beginning from the end. Obviously you do not understand what “genetically” modified means. This is NOT done by mother nature. It is done by human interference in a laboratory with a needle except for wheat. Wheat is not a GMO modified product. The US, Mexico and Canada set up a growing area in Mexico and purposefully crossed various different species of wheat which wasn’t that bad. The problem came in when they added various types of “grasses” in with it. Humans do NOT eat nor can we process grasses. I am a diabetic and Celiac so believe me I know what our wheat does to us. I live with it daily!!
Visit any grocery store and smell one of every apple organic or regular. Chem trails don’t bother us, rain water is pure, and GMO foods won’t hurt us? Go back and smell the apples. Oh, why are chem trails over NYC and the Hudson River near where I live? No farms here, just humans and pets. So, what ARE the chem trails, that linger for hours and get wider, for? I raise all of our food biologically. That means organic methods plus balancing the soil for quality nutrition and insect and disease control. Using beneficial microbes on a regular basis will negate the harmful things coming in. Living in an area that planes do not fly over on a regular basis will moderate that problem. If you do, use more microbes. We have foliar ones that we use weekly. I have cleaned up very toxic ground in a short time with these methods. Yes there is Non-GMO corn seed grown in a valley in Oregon. I will have to find that seed catalog to get the name. We do see improvement even with GMO with proper nutrition. I do not do GMO and avoid it as much as possible. I grow only heirloom plants. They have more nutrition but you will need to put minerals in the soil so they do well. I am glad to analyze soil test for people so you can learn how to get your soil in good shape. We use Midwest Labs for the best soil test at a very reasonable price. $25.00. Attend the farm seminar at Tainio Technology and you will learn how to protect yourself from many of today’s problems. It is so much more than basic farming! They do have videos available too.
Yes I am concerned about GMO foods and the antibotics and hormons also that the government allows to be added to the animals to make them fat. It has nothing to do with the animals health.

According to the Whole Seed Catalog, from Baker Creek heirloom seeds, there are only 4 varieties of corn that is not GMO infected. and 3 of them are pop-corn. I grow my own sweet corn, but it is probably infected. All I have is the knowledge that at least I don’t apply the chemicals so hope at least if is healthier than the rest. I am very concerned about not having GMO’S labeled. They need to be labeled now!!!
Cans should not have BPA lining the cans. BPA is very toxic and it can kill us. Also, certain receipts have extremely toxic chemical on it. The Gov’t does give a rats ass about us. Remember, God helps those who help themselves. What I do is, 2 cleanses a year to help rid my body of any toxic stuff. I give you this golden nuggest in love for humanity.

I hear and read what you are saying, but you fail to take into consideration the spraying being done almost daily from the skies. The planes that throw into the air the so-called protection against solar flares or some such things.
I don’t know if you ever watched the film WITWATS (What In The World Are They Spraying) or WITWATS 2 (Why In The World Are They Spraying?). The first explains the poisonous chemicals being used in the process. The second explains the why.
Is there truly an organic food that isn’t being impacted by things this government has been using; not just in the United States, but throughout the world. you speak of grass fed beef as being the best. Well, I question the validity of that with the spraying that is occurring. We speak of how great Australian beef is due to being grass-fed. I would agree with that except for the fact that Australia is sprayed constantly as is our country and many others. The only places I could see being organically grown and safe are those grown in hothouses and the like. Under a roof of glass, the chances are greater for truly safe organic foods. But how many are there? I support organic farms from independent suppliers. The rest of them, especially meats, A have doubts as to their true clean organic status. I don’t know if there will ever be sufficient food that is truly organic and safe unless those sprayings are eliminated. So it isn;t just dealing with Monsanto and others like them. I keep thinking that between the spraying and the Monsanto-type genetically engineered foods. We really don’t know what we are truly eating that is safe. It’s a shame that we have to eat in order to live. But those who are pushing this kind of foods aren’t interested in our health. They’re too interested in making billions of dollars at our exoense. Let’s be realistic; they own the government, lock stock and barrel. We are not the stakeholders any more, and probably have not been for many years now. A sad commentary.

Decades ago in order to control my weight I began a calorie reduced diet of one meal a day. Like most Americans I live a sedentary life style and really don’t need that much food. It has worked but now I realized that it has also allowed me to remain more healthy and vigorous than most of my peers. I have also supplemented with vitamins during those decades. For anyone except manual laborers trying to get all the necessary vitamins from food means obesity without a vigorous exercise program which also makes people money.
So I will continue to eat my one meal a day from a Hospital Kosher kitchen. I also distill NYC tap water with a Waterwise distiller which I recommend to anyone.

Yes, I am concerned about the spraying also. I live in NW Ohio and this past week there has been so much activity. The chem-trails crossed the sky’s for a couple of days. The trails hung there and got bigger for hours after the jets were out of site. Not Normal! I observed a jet and a CONTRAIL! It disappeared as the jet did. But the Chemtrails? Lasted for hours and expanded. Then we get this huge storm on 11-17-2013 which produced several tornados. In NOV?

Funny that so many of the companies responsible for the destruction of our food supply are owned by the 1%ers. As they are failing to leave us homeless and pennyless, are they trying to wipe us out completely using the food we eat?.
It’s evident to those who are researching the credible corroborating evidence that the GMOs are causing disorders that develop into deadly diseases such as diabetes, cancer, heart attack… and are amassing billions of dollars for those whose evil, greedy designs control the AMA, and the Pharmaceutical Industry, whose executives run the FDA.
These seeds could be the key to restoring the health of millions – but only if we learn how and manage to get access or own the resources to farm. There were prophets who told us decades ago that we needed to learn this and other self-reliant skills. Some have done this. Can you find some these? They are generous to mentor and share produce.
Frank, I have had a lot of trouble growing organic foods, because of the aluminum oxide and barium oxide deposited on the ground from the chemtrails, that the U.N. claims cannot be stopped. The oxides cause a lot of crops to be stunted if they emerge at all.
Let me really get you guys to go deeper into the RABBIT HOLE. For years now many companies tried to patent “life organisms” because they were genetically modified but the US Patent Office would not grant these patents because patents were not giving out for “life organisms”. Here comes Monsanto with there lobbyists and lawyers. Guess who use to be a lawyer for Monsanto from 1976-1980? No other than accused sex offender Clarence Thomas. Now this name should ring a giant bell in everyones head. Mr Thomas has been a US Supreme Court Justice since the early 80’s. Here is where the Rabbit Hole gets deeper. Honorable Thomas (yeah right) was the 5th and deciding vote that allowed Monsanto to get their patents for the GMO foods. Imagine that! ready for some more? Why did Monsanto spend $7 million on ad campaigns in California so that GMO foods would NOT REQUIRE LABELING. Gonna state the obvious, they don’t want you to be able to trace the food back to them if you get sick or die. Monsanto might as well be a tobacco company. The biggest problem is they don’t know what ailments have been created from their “safe” foods. If Almighty God didn’t create it, I don’t want it.

I believe GMO food is very bad. Some have no seeds, why? Bees aren’t getting enough nutrition (just my theory from observing). Gmo grown food spreads to good food crops also. Some countries likeIreland banned it. Monsanto grew some there & the burned it because they didn’t want it corrupting their food supply.
I’ve already started growing a small garden this summer. It takes a little time and research to learn how to farm. Plan to plant more next year. I’ve already purchased some ofther non GMO seeds and have collected seeds from my current plants.
I ill go to any lengths necessary to avoid the gut destroying poison glyphosate, and Monsanto’s evil crusade to control the world’s food supply.

Just wanted to let you know that, GMO foods are the tip of the iceberg. I have been trying to start an organic farm here in Canada, growing all the produces I can find, by way of organic seed.
Just recently I found out that Monsanto has just released a list of plants, that they hold the DNA patient on, (everything from soup to nuts). With that kind of orginization running the industry, how can we possibily find organic seeds, that have not been tamperd with.
Here in Canada an organic farmer has to grow their crops for two years, chemical free, with randum monthly testing of your crops for that period of time, in order to get organic certification or licensed as an organic grower.
Now heres the scary part, have you heard of chemtrails, those are vapour trails left by aircraft flying over head, reports from around the world have found traces of toxic chemicals, being deposited on farmers crops, water supplies, animals testing positive with the same toxic chemicals in their systems.
How far does the rabbit hole go, with Monsanto running the show and the USA government passing laws protecting them from any wrong doings. GMO crops are going to be the only source of food left, after Monsanto takes all of our farms away for growing cross contaminated crops that we are not licensed to grow. It has already happened to a Sask. farmer, who was surrounded by other farmers growing round-up ready canola. Monsanto went on to this farmers land, took a test sample of this farmers non-GMO canola field, and found out that by way of cross contamination of the canola, by way of wind transfer.
The farmer lost his farm, and his way of life, to Monsanto for the legal costs and the fact that he was not licensed to grow round-up ready canola, even though it was a small corner of his crop field that tested positive. The multi levels of government in Canada, did nothing for this farmer and that is a sure sign of things to come, in the not to distant future. Tell your friends to take cover, the storm is about to fall.

I avoid GMO Foods Like the plague! I would really, really like to see GMO labeling mandatory. Like I have said since this issue first arose, “If Monsanto is so proud of their products why are they afraid to label them?”
Yes I do care if it is GMO, I avoid eating out and we grow our own food. I hope more people get involved, if they do maybe the farmers and government will see, we will not buy what they grow if it is GMO..
When you get in the “I’ll plant my own food”, you may want to plant hybrids, but do keep on hand a supply of “Heritage” seed for everything you will want to plant. If you keep seeds in a low-humidity environment (dry, in a sealed glass jar) and low-temperature environment (refrigerator), seeds will last a long time. I have better than 90% germination rate for seeds stored 11 years.
The reason to keep your emergency seed supply in Heritage, rather than Hybrid seeds is that if you take the seeds from Hybrid plants and plant them the next year, what you get will not have the same characteristics found in the original seeds. “The kids will not look like the parents.”
I have a neighbor who has planted Merit corn seed for over 20 years, saving seed each year to plant again the next spring. There is no “degeneration” in successive plantings. Each crop looks like and has all the characteristics of the parent crop. That’s what you want.
Yes I agree we should only eat organic foods. the first step is to tell the government we only want organic food, the second step is to set up a lottery or elect some one to tell the approximately two billion people who will starve to death because we cannot grow enough food organically to feed the world, who would be the people to pick out the ones that die? maybe a lottery which should include Americans as well. Many people would opt to eat GMO foods rather than starve to death, and no GMO foods are not perfect but somebody come up with something better.
Living in Vermont makes it very easy to buy and eat locally. Also, everyone knows everyone else, including all the farmers.
But, I do have a question. Through my entire working career as a Quality Manager, liaison, and troubleshooter, it was necessary for me to travel extensively. Both in the U.S. and other countries. I don’t worry about other countries. But I never knew what I might be eating in the U.S. Being retired, I know that I’m eating locally now. BUT, what is the long term effect eating unknown sources of foods for upwards of thirty years. And, is it reversible.

We do all of the above. No processed food-like products. No corn or soy of any kind. One must read every ingredient label and know of the alternate names some of these food-like products are called. Maltodextrin and dextrose are corn, and are likely GM, so if they are in the product, it goes back on the shelf.
Recent concerns about wheat have changed my breadmaking. I use alternate grains such as spelt and rye. I have developed some very good recipes for outstanding breads with these grains, and barter with local food producers for grass-fed beef, organic vegetables, and other things that I cannot grow in my own garden. You’d be surprised at how willing they are to trade for something they have no time to make themselves and is as wholesome as the products they do have.
For those who are just beginning their search for better nutrition, it would be worthwhile to check out the “Weston Price Foundation.” They have chapters all over the US and worldwide. Local chapters highlight local producers of organic and biodynamic products, as well as tips on how to avoid GM products and alternate (traditional) ways of food preparation.
For our home garden, we use an integrated pest management system that includes plenty of flowers and other plants that attract beneficial insects and birds. We breed frogs in a decorative pond (if you build it, they will come). We do not use any kind of pesticide and pull weeds by hand or use mulch to prevent them. We have very little trouble with unwanted pests, and all of the flowers throughout the garden make it a truly beautiful place to spend time.
Yes, I do care very much about GMO foods. We try to stay away from them, but it is not that easy on a low income budget. We do the best we can.

Being on SSD and with a fixed income, it’s pretty hard to purchase organically grown food. If I had the extra frigging money of course I would buy more healthier foods.
I equate GMOs with nucler waste–once you got it you can’t get rid of it.
Here’s what I did that all of you can do: I went through my pantry, fridge, and freezer gathering names and addressess of all the companies that produce the food I eat. I wrote to all of them questioning their use of GMOs.I asked that GMOs be labeled or eliminated. I told them all, 50+ companies that I would not buy their products until I was assured they were GMO free. There have been some interesting responses.

The american public was completly fooled when they first started telling us about the benefits of GMO food .It turns out that the only thing its modifyed for is to resist the tons of Monsanto pestesides farmers need to use to kill weeds that are now resistant to everything. So the most dangerous thing about GMO food is they are loaded with the most dangerous pestesides in the world. There was also a recent study done at a prison in IL.They fed the inmates GMO soy protein. and within months they started having all kinds of health problems.I have a lot more to tell you about this . but it would be easier to fax you the information. I appreciate your writings on GMO’s, but there are additiional concerns with foods that are being hybridized and hybridized again and again and never tested on humans with the end products. The most prevalent is wheat. We have more people with celiac and intestinal diseases than ever, since the new hybridized wheat was introduced in 1985. It has been determined that this highly hybridized and over used product in our food today is the cause of the increase of weight, diabetes, high blood pressure, some cancers, and the list goes on. I am not wheat sensitive but have chosen to eliminate it from my diet and have definitely felt much better than I have in years. The bible tells us not to hybridize anything and yet some have chosen to disobey for profit. This is just a message from a concerned “health nut” person who chose a path of basic food for life.

My family converted to organic and non-GMO long ago … we had to as my body reacts to BT (Bacillus thuringiensis) toxin which has been inserted genetically into corn, soy, canola, cotten, and potatoes. The BT potatoes were fortunately rejected by most major restaurant chains and never took off with producers. I can not eat the other four items unless they are non-GMO. I always assume that unless these things are specifically labeled as non-GMO or Organic that they will make me sick.
Even though I actively avoid GM products, I still get sick from my food about once or twice a month. I have in the past relied on buying food products that I have eaten before and which didn’t make me sick, but this has recently caused me some unpleasant surprises. A cereal that I have eaten my entire life started making me sick this past February ….. (Honey Nut O’s from a major company… you can guess), scratch one more food off my list.
I can not go out to eat EVER! I always get sick. (I’m just a little bitter about that).
My advice to all is to read the labels on every food you buy.
There are lots of non-GM foods out there once you start looking for them …more expensive yes, but well worth it. (Actually, the prices of organic and non-GM foods have been coming down in relation to their non-organic and GM counterparts since my family first converted. More and more people are demanding good food choices, and more producers are realizing that there is plenty of money to be made from people who are willing to pay a little extra for these foods). Join us and help to increase the demand for organic and non-GM products and more producers will respond.
In Germany it is not that bad yet, although most of the animals are fed by genetically modified soja beans. To avoid this and to stop the terrible conditions animals are kept, my wife and myself became vegetarians more than one year ago. I avoid all soja products and I preferrably buy local stuff, of which I know where it comes from. It really is disgusting, that firms like Monsanto get permission to plant their rubbish despite the fact that most of the people hate genetically modified food. It is a crime that stuff like that comes on the market, without proof that it is not harmful to human life and all that is only done for financal reasons.
I’m 100% disgusted that GMO’s are even allowed in our food chain, and mad as hell about it. My family avoids them the best we can, by buying organic or avoiding items we know are typically GMO. I call food producers (like Loblaws/P.C.) and ask them about specific products they produce. This is tedious but productive. Ready soon to plant some of our heirloom seeds we purchased from p4p :)
Justin IS onto something I’ve been thinking about. A friend just came back from Afghanistan fighing for the US Army. He mentioned that our govt. has a plan to get everyone out of the country and into the cities or internment camps. Now that our govt. has their own definition of what “terroism” is, we could be looking at a totally different life.
I strongly suggest you look up “FM 3-39.40”. It’s a military Field Manual that lays out a plan for assimilating everyone into internment camps. Having a stash of non-GMO seeds would be worth more their weight in Gold. I’ve quit using GMO seeds and really see no difference in productivity. Actually, non-GMO seeds are ulike “brain-dead” GMO seeds. GMO seeds will come up in a snow storm whereas, non-GMO sees will sprout when it is safe for them to do so. And I live in Central Texas where gardening can be trying. In the future, I plan on growing more and more of a variety of vegetable seeds to hand out via our Library (if they’ll accept) so, local gardeners can get back to feeling more a part of the whole gardening experience. And begin growing better strains for our soil and climate through cross pollinating their stronges and most productive plants.
I’ve tried bringing home “organic” produce to allow the seeds within them to ripen the way they would if they were truly grown and matured naturally.
So far, every “organic” vegetable seedsthat I’ve bought from the HEB in Fredericksburg, TX and allowed to mature naturally, haven’t germinated at all. So, I asked their “Produce Section Expert”: If I were to take home one or your “organic” Egg Plants and allow the seeds to mature naturally, would the seeds germinate?
That seemed a pretty straight forward question. He told me that he didn’t know what I was asking. So, I asked him if his “organic” produce is genetically modified. He told me that all of their produce is non-genetically modified and that they don’t deal with them at all.
I just looked at him to see if he was hiding anything and he wasn’t by his body language. However, he wasn’t lieing, he just didn’t know what he was talking about. In truth, I’ve found that even if produce is labeled “organic”, they can still be genetically modified.
Jeff – Organic is a growing method that has nothing to do with the genetics of the plants themselves. You can organically raise plants that are not open-pollinators. What you want is produce from non-hybrid plants, i.e. open pollinators. Sometimes you’ll see these labeled as “heirloom”, but that term isn’t regulated and can mean all sorts of things. Be aware that GMO is different still. GMO means that the plants weren’t just hybridized (specially mated to produce pretty, but sterile, offspring) but were genetically altered to withstand herbicide. GMO plants are not sterile – in fact they reproduce nicely and their genetics take over all neighboring fields and turn them into GMO plants. Rather than looking for organic produce, you’ll want to look for heirloom varieties or get your veggies from farmer’s markets and as the growers about the reproduction abilities of their wares.
Avoiding processed foods (foods not in their natural state) helps tremendously to lower excessive salt and calorie intake (which are high in MOST processed foods). It also help us get the roughage and vitamins we need from our foods because processing (even simple steaming) breaks down cell walls of the foods and damages (or reduces) the vitamin content.
So eat more natural state raw foods and add your own herbs, avoiding adding heavy salt and calorie laden ingredients.
Also, eating your veggies as fresh as they can be prevents some of the loss of vitamins from the foods. So growing your own and picking them close to the time of consumption is a great idea.
But don’t be fooled by thinking that by growing your own is an answer to avoiding GM seeds. Today, almost all our food seeds were obtained from some genetic modification techniques. And seed packets are not labeled as often as foods are with GMO-free designations. The best bet is, as someone said before me, to look for “heirloom” seeds. Unfortunately, that designation is not regulated so you could still be getting GM seed. and if the seed has been modified, trust me, the plant that results from it will also be, as will the food it produces.

People have a choice, but do not utilize it because it requires too much attention and responsibility. For example, it is well known that corn and soy are GMO, yet who looks at the label and avoids it. Most packaged food contains GMO’s, yet many people choose to ignore this and continue to consume it and then blame others for their inaction. We are the result of our choices. Put your action and your money where your beliefs are. Quit expecting others to do what is right for you. Only you can come to a thoughtful conclusion for you. Take action, it is the only true answer to the issues we encounter. “We are the people”
I have a question for everyone that is against gmo seeds. How do you want farmers to grow your food for you? I want you to think about it before you answer. IF non gmo is your answer we need a lot from you. More money, labor and for people to relax on clean water, because thats not going to happen. Its hard for me to be on the get rid of gmo’s side when I am a producer of grain and meat for a lot of people. We farm 3300 acres of corn, wheat, soybeans, 110 cow calf operation, 140000 weaned pigs a year, and we are also into bulldozing. I am open to every idea, because in the end we all work together to solve problems. I feel as a producer that we need to tell the consumers what is happening out here and answer all questions. Their isn’t anything to hide. One last thing how do you feel about CAFO’s.
I am also concerned whith the food that is curently on our grocery shelves. I do grow my own and am careful about what I am eating and drinking. It’s pretty bad when your government cares more about a company like Monsanto, than they do about their citizens and their health. I believe that most of the illness in this country is caused by the engineered and processed food that is being eaten today. Keep up the good work.

First a big thank you for what you are doing. We try to avoid gmo foods but struggle with knowing what is or is not. We are vegan vegetarian and try to buy as much as possible organic foods. We appreciate all you tips on spotting GMO foods.

We’ve been growing as much as possible for quite awhile, we raise our own chicken and now feed them fodder that we grow ourselves. Fodder is good for chickens, rabbits, cattle, horses, pigs and goats. It’s a lot less expensive than conventional feed, especially alfalfa. In Arizona, a bale of alfalfa is no less than 14.00. When we were in Nebraska, feed was a lot less, but because of their drought the price is going up. Unfortunately, buying Organic is expensive, but if you watch sales it isn’t quite so bad, but then again, if more of us would buy organic, it would drive the prices down a little. Our health is worth the extra expense. Or, grow a garden like we do. We buy pure seed, GMO free from Baker Creek seeds. There is not a place on earth that you cannot have a garden, research helps no matter what area you are in. In the Arizona desert we plant earlier and yes we do get freezes, but we are always warned and prepare for it. We are blessed to have over an acre with our own well but there are many ways to conserve and use your water. While waiting for the shower water to get hot or the dish water to get hot, put a bucket under the faucet and use that water for your plants. We don’t need grass or water hogging flowers, edible plants do the trick and look great too. You will not believe how much water you can save in one day for watering your plants or even animals.
So many of us have been dumbed down and bought the lie that you can’t raise animals or garden (even in the city you can have chickens (no roosters) for meat and eggs or rabbits for meat, just keep the area clean and no one is going to complain, especially if you offer your neighbor fresh eggs once in awhile. We lived in a small community two years ago that was nothing but HOA’s, but we raised lettuce and tomatoes, cilantro, spinach and squash in 5 gallon buckets on the back porch. No one complained, they raved about it and wanted to do the same. It’s time to get off our behinds and off the “smart” phones (which by the way, will be useless before long) and get outside and grow some food, get exercise, feel good about growing what you eat and oh yeah, be a neighbor. None of us can complain about the GMO’s and the state of our food if we are not willing to do something about it. As one of the other posters said, be responsible for what you put in your mouth, be accountable for what you do, stop worrying about the other person. These companies count on the fact that most of us are lazy and will not take the time or effort to grow our own food, let alone look at labels or spend a little more for organic. And if it seems too hard to search out what is healthy, most people just give up. We have allowed these things to happen to us for the sake of convenience, blindly following along and believing everything we hear. God gave us everything we need to eat and survive without perverting it. So it’s obvious, we need to examine ourselves, our “heart” and mind and look to Him for what we need. Besides, He knows best, we just mess it up.

What few tests have been done on rats fed GMO foods have shown serious health problems such as tumors. I recently saw the film “Genetic Roulette” and am convinced that GMO food is very dangerous to eat. I have been mostly organic for years, but am now more careful about GMO’s showing up in most processed foods.
Primitive man did not eat genetically modified plants. The animals he ate were all free-ranging. He drank clean water and breathed clean air. He was usually dead before he reached thirty-five years of age…
I have grown my own produce (vegetables and fruit) for well over 50 yrs. I also process my produce thereby avoiding the additives, food colorings, etc., in commercially processed foods. When shopping I am extremely cautious when selecting produce (anythin I cannot grow myself), meats, etc., to avoid the poisons that may be present. I DO NOT use any chemical fertilizers, and compost everything possible.
Living in the desert has it’s challenges, food growing wise, but I have overcome most of them and have told others how to do likewise. It takes work and sadly to say, many are not willing to invest the time or effort. Ah well, all I can do is try. By the way we are also Solar.
GMOs were developed to resist Glyphosate(round-up) from killing them. Glyphosate was orginally patented in 1975 as a bactericide. You only need 1part/Million to be a leathal dose to good bacteria and 10 part/million for bad bacteria. So now you have to watch were the fertilizer that you put on your gardens comes from: Chicken, Cows, Pigs are feed GMO grains. GMO genetics are transferable in to the Meat as there waste products. I have had Goose, chicken, and dairy cow manures tested the goose maure came back with 12part/million, chicken maure even more equivent of 1-3qt of pounds of Glyphosate per ton (most farmer are putting on 4-10 tons/acre. there is some research that say only 20% of the Glyphosate residue in the chicken feed end up in the manure where dose the other 80% end up? Dairy manure only has about 1# glyphosate pre ton of dry manure( recomended rate of Glyphosate is 1#/acre in a spray. about 80% of our wheat and 90%+ of our barley is killer by Glyphosate in the name of a even harvest. one only has to wonder why gluten intolerance is growing at an almost equal rate of use, and the Beer companies like Miller Budwieser have to out side of the US to get barley without glyphoste residue in it inorder to brew beer because the residue kills the yeast. Now they spray the weeds in Orange Grove, Orchards, Vinards Glyphosate is absorbed by the roots and the trees get sick and die (and none of the paid by Monsato University(all of them) seem to understand How or why. if they do get it they have to publish it out side the US Government/Monsanto Edit any published in the US. Also they now spray all of the Cane Sugar grown in North America with round-up because is to much of a nuisence to burn it like it is ment to be so if want sugar that is safe you will have to get it from Hawaii.

As an herbalist, I teach people how to get healthy. Therefore, I am very concerned about the quality of food that we eat.
Muscle testing is a sure way to avoid buying foods that are not good for us to eat. Muscle testing works through the electrical energy in the food vs our own electrical energy. The electrical energy in our bodies naturally repelled or weakens when in contact with food that will have a negative effect on our bodies.
A few years ago in August, I canned peaches purchased from the supermarket. Two cases with 50 in each. I saved all 100 peach pits and soaked them in s bowl of water. Of the 100 pits, 10 split. I planted those 10 in a pot, and 2 grew… But what grew looked like a combination between a corn plant, a lily & ???… not a peach tree! They lived outside in a pot through the winter. Then late spring they put on an odd looking stragglie tassel, then died shortly after. Each August they sprout and repeat the entire process, never producing fruit.
Have you tried to sprout an avocado lately? I haven’t been able to get one to sprout in years!
Be sure to plant your gardens with “heirloom” seeds to avoid GMO seeds.

I only purchase organic …except like avacados etc., which do not make a difference … Nada !! …Nothing GMO; and the very best bottled water of FIJI rather than using tap water unfiltered … Eat out as little as possible … was reared on greens , pot., beans, berries, nuts and …garden from locals…IF they are organic minded… Could survive on greens in the spring and a plot for potatoes …good clean water fish from the lake … canned imported sardines , salmon and mackeral some tuna; and roots from my sassafrass for tea… herbs for cleansing of toxins …

I threw white sliced Wonder bread on the lawn and NONE of the animals or insects would touch it ! If the animals and insects know better how come not humans? They take all the vitamins and nutrients out of the food to sell to vitamin companies. We don’t have easy access to local farmers nor do we have property to support our food needs. Thanks so much for this info. I try to avoid them at all costs….literally. I’m gluten intolerant and do so much better without wheat in the diet, although I occassionally have Udi bread. I’m also lactose intolerant and choose to buy organic or grow some of my own food around the condo instead of flowers! I’v ealso gone back to pressure canning our own food and teaching our kids to do the same.
I believe the reason so many people today are gluten intolerant is because most of the wheat grown in this country has been modified for decades by chemical companies.
Most European countries will not buy our wheat.

I very much care that I am not eating GMO foods. I understand they are cross pollinating with other farming. Which if I understand , then these crops take on the DNA . So what dose this mean long term? These farmers are being caught up in courts and litigation for having this DNA in their crops, and they never wanted it. Nor could they reverse it even if they wanted to.Does this mean all of our foods will be altered at some point in time?

I am very concerned about this yes I do care and I do try to buy organic. I do not want to eat GMO type food and I would like to know what foods are GMO.
We do not purchase anything that has or possibly has GMO ingredients any more. My entire family has been on the full GAPS diet since August, so everything we buy or have bought since August is either organic or grown locally so we know the content/source of our food. We have not eaten any processed food since going on GAPS with everything made from fresh ingredients. Making everything from scratch is very time consuming for me and my wife due to increased preparation and clean up. Because all of our food is high quality/nutrient rich, our food budget has also risen sharply; HOWEVER, THE HEALTH BENEFITS HAVE BEEN PHENOMENAL! Since August, my wife has slowly lost 28 pounds after 15 years of trying to lose weight with no success at all, and she has far more energy now than she’s had in years. My daughter who was very gluten intolerant and could hardly eat because of chronic stomach/intestinal pain now has a very strong appetite and has been pain free since starting GAPS. Our youngest daughter who is type I diabetic has a healthy glow to her skin now (she looked pasty before) and her blood sugar is more stable. She also loves to eat healthy food now, whereas before, we almost had to force her to eat good, nutritious food. For myself, I am no longer addicted to carbs and my energy levels have been much more stable throughout the day after the initial two months of being on GAPS. None of us has had even a sniffle since August and we are well into December with many people around us getting colds, bronchitis, and stomach and intestinal flu. We will never go back to our old diet as I know many of the non-organic foods we ate contained GMO products and were also high in wheat ingredients.
This is what happens when humans intervene with mother nature, we will end up with more health problems and a bigger deficit to pay for it.

This is starting to sound like a lot of other foolish things that people do to make things better – they have introduced insects to counter bad bugs and it has come back to bite them – same with birds to go after bad bugs and the birds are not a very big problem and the list goes on – sounds like that old poem about the old woman who swallowed a fly and so on.
The constant changing and correcting of problems caused by mankind, who if they had left everything alone, things would have been better off and probably corrected itself in time. Some day it will come to pass that scientists will realize that GMO foods are killing us and if only they had been left alone all would have been better/best!
A question this all poses is if they can change or remove something or add something – what could they add that is NOT good for us? Prop 37 was a fraud. Monsanto bought the election along with DOW and all the rest of the fascists. The French GMO study should be broadcast on PBS, Discovery Channel. The information there tells how to read current food labels and includes the consumer strategy to shut down all foods with GMO.
What is the strategy? Same as yours, figure out which foods have it and don’t buy them. AND you can add to that a complaint to the store manager for stocking them and a promise not to buy them.
Spreading the word is also important. If we all do something alone and/or band together we can have the bulk of this out of the food chain within ONE YEAR!
Then our kids will be safer and our health should improve.
Remember this is relative because we have been eating these contaminants for quite a while.

Thank you so much for taking a forward stand on this issue. I buy all my foods from the Organic Markets, and I have cut down considerably on cooked food. I eat live vegetables. My only regret is; I waited until I am 67 to start this venture; however, I believe the older we get the more precious life become. I applaud you, 10 thumbs-up.
I must say I’m a bit skeptical of the apparent rampage against genetically modified food. Especially if the alternative is organic, I think I’ll keep on buying something that MIGHT be genetically modified. Considering how we’ve had pesticides, herbicides, and hybrid crops growing for decades now, I’m not buying the idea that GMO foods necessarily pose a hazard.
If we’re worried about population control, we’d do better to protest and pray outside abortion clinics. We KNOW for a fact that human beings–who aren’t recognized legally as human beings yet–ARE dying in those. These facilities pose a much greater threat to our nation than does our food.
The sticker to look for on fruits & vegetables. There is a sticker with the name of the fruit or vegetable and a number. The organic nunnery always starts with a 9xxxxx conventional fruits & vegetables start with a 4xxx. If you notice there are also to more digits on the organic fruits and vegetables.
Now organic items other than produce should have an organic lable which is a half colored circle. It is normally green and white but sometimes black and white. It says USDA Organic.

I grow what I can. I buy organic foods when I buy and grow the rest. I use organic practices. I live in Texas and even with this last summer and its blistering heat I grew my organic garden. I water alot when my plants are young. Then taper off and water them very infrequently once that they are established. Sometimes as few as once a month. Water heavily when you water but then use the leaves as a guide. When they droop, water them. Its been working for me for the last four years. I think you should try…Good Luck
I went on a eating binge of zuchinni and yellow crook neck squash a few months ago thinking that was what my body wanted … I ate them 3 or 4 times a day with organic butter, salt and pepper and the more I ate – the more I wanted it … at first that is.
My daughter got ill first, then I started feeling ill as well … I was the only one eating those squash exclusively so my children’s symptoms only lasted a couple days because they didn’t want any more squash. I thought that I was just detoxing; because, I really felt poisoned; but, fully believed that I was doing my body a great deed …
After around 2 weeks of eating just the squash, I began getting really weak; and then, I lost my hearing and my vision began to get fuzzy … I also noticed that when I reached in the fridge and grabbed hold of a couple fresh squash … my stomach turned. By this time I was so sick that I could hardly walk and I am a Minister of Health – all my remedies did NOTHING AT ALL to alleviate the illness I was having.
One Sabbath morning I could not even get out of bed … I was really ill; but, a friend of mine came over and didn’t wake me; but, left me a DVD on my table and some other stuff … the DVD was called “Genetic Roulette” which I recommend you watch and pass on to as many people as you can, the documentary is by Jeffrey Smith and is truly an excellent way to discover what is killing us …
In that documentary that I watched that Sabbath day left me in shock. See, 2 of the 10 GMO foods grown in the US of A for human consumption … 2 of the list was zuchinni and yellow crook neck squash. I almost killed myself and my family and I am still recovering pretty slowly from the poisons that I Bought and Paid For … I truly almost went into SHOCK when I saw them on the list.

There was a guest on the Dr Oz show yesterday, Dec 3rd, that talked about genetically altered Wheat and what it is doing to cause obesity in our society. He has written a book . It is on the Dr Oz website of course. I have been concerned about Genetically altered food for some time and try to grow a garden and also buy organic if I can find it. To avoid it a person has to buy fresh because the canned goods are probably all genetically altered. I swore off of Canola Oil when I discovered that it was a by product of axle grease. I understand for several years now that everything to do with food manipulation & ‘microwaves’ that is ‘towers’ & ovens in the kitchen; are all designed with population control in mind through creating sickness of many kinds. All we can do is try to educate those around us; that if they would support the local markets & make organic choices in the grocery stores & support the good & local producers; we will grow in a versitile market on the local level & support our own economies locally instead of supporting the very ones that are designing our demise. We must care & be responsible for our own & our families health; we cannot let ‘George” do it. We still have some control of what we eat & we can grow a lot of our own; it is not difficult & good exercise. It seems that they don’t want us to have a right to make a choice but we still can. Poor health is more costly than cutting out things that are not necessary for everyday living & buying a better standard of food to sustain health.GMO should be on ‘all’ labels & tags etc. Our Pets foods are another concern they are a good source for laundering all kinds of bad things & GMO products causing all kinds of health issues–liver, kidney & pancreas problems. Our foods that we consume to support all of this is so terribly important. So it is necessary to make changes if we care about our young families. Convienience food is a very poor choice. Big gov’t & multi nationals only care about brain washing the general population & their bank accounts because this keep folks broke & sick; so make a choice to step off of the treadmill & be a better example.
Basically, the bt corn modification produces micro RNA, little guys that punch holes in your gut and and go out and change cells anywhere in your body to little insecticide plants/whatever…there is a correspondance between all kinds of diseases (autism, gut disorders, infertility, et al) that have drastically increased in the U.S. since 1996, the point where we all started consuming this s**t. I do not want to eat GMO foods. I do not believe there has been enough testing with any long term results. I do want labels that give me choices, and believe this should be required. I live in the country and am able to buy fresh most of the time, but have found that even then the farmers are trying to get the most of their crops and will use GMO seeds. It pays to ask.
This current government is not being truthful with us on so many things, what makes me think that this issue is any different.

2) Buy local and talk to your farmers.
As a farmer/ rancher I KNOW MY crops and animals are GMO-free because I won’t allow GMOs on my land. Also, I do NOT use pesticides/ herbicide on my land so I’m not degrading the quality of my soil either. Ask your farmer:
– What do you know about Genetically Modified plants?
– How do you know your animals do not eat GMOs?
– What herbicides do you use on your land?
3) Avoid the top four GMO crops of soy, corn, canola and cottonseed.
For these, avoid any that are not specifically organic.
4) Encourage your favorite food providers to label their food “GMO free.”
5) Buy organically grown food.
6) Use conventional or organic sugar.

This may very well be the greatest threat to our healthy future. Genetically Modified Organisms, once released, cannot be recalled. They cross pollinate / breed with nature’s original plants/ animals and create Franken-gene organisms. Once in your body (or the body of the being that eats it) they can create allergic reactions, cause your body to create proteins never seen before in your body… the modifications made to the plant– such as bt corn– can cause illness such as leaky-gut syndrome (as the insecticide is built into the corn and is designed to cause the insect’s stomach to rupture– and yours to become “leaky.”)… The list of effects is too long to go into here. Suffice it to say, our good health is on the line now.

1) Look at the stickers on fruit.
– What you’re looking for is the bar code that has a 5 digit code and begins with an 8 indicates that the produce was genetically modified.

2) Buy local and talk to your farmers.
As a farmer/ rancher I KNOW MY crops and animals are GMO-free because I won’t allow GMOs on my land. Also, I do NOT use pesticides/ herbicide on my land so I’m not degrading the quality of my soil either. Ask your farmer:
– What do you know about Genetically Modified plants?
– How do you know your animals do not eat GMOs?
– What herbicides do you use on your land?

Our world would be much better off if we managed our natural resources properly. As human beings, we must be proper caretakers of our planet. Utilizing our gifts for the better of all lifeforms. We must conserve, preserve, and restore our planet’s natural resources to ensure that our valuable resources don’t diminish any further. There are much safer and more sustainable alternatives than genetically modifying organisms. For one, we can take care of our planet’s natural resources so that we don’t have to worry about our crops not successfully growing to their fullest potential. We can restore and cleanse our farmlands to ensure that our God given species can survive and flourish in our natural landscapes. We must put an end to chemical pollution, including banning and enforcing the laws created to protect our natural resources. We must stop the excess pollution air crafts release. Metallic pollution needs to be enforced to the fullest. Metallics are interfering with our planets natural cycles, which is the reason why many of our native species are dying off. We should be cross-breeding plants for desired traits for our desired environments. We should be creating seed banks full of seed stock that are suitable for our multitude of environments. This all needs to happen very rapidly before it is too late and our planet self destructs.
The best and surest way to avoid eating GMO foods is to stop eating.
I am not to worried about the GMO in the grocery store. I am more worried about that stuff when it comes to the seeds that I get. I would rather have standard seeds than ones that will only produce one year. that is what is going to get us into the most trouble.
